Two-days Experts Consultative Workshop on Reimagining Anthropolgy Mapping Education, Employability and Future Directions in India| AIF | 3- 4 December, 2025

Summary:

Consultative Workshop on “Reimagining Anthropology: Mapping Education, Employability and Future Directions in India” was successfully organised on 3–4 December 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, in collaboration with Anthropos India Foundation, New Delhi.

The workshop brought together leading anthropologists, academicians, and policy thinkers from across India, who participated both offline at IGRMS, Bhopal, and online via Google Meet. The deliberations focused on critically examining the current state of anthropology education in India, emerging career pathways, and the discipline’s future relevance in policy, development, and interdisciplinary research.

Eminent experts including Dr. Sunita Reddy, Prof. Amitabh Pande, Prof. Arbind Sinha, Prof. Subhash Walimbe, Prof. K. K. Misra, Prof. A. B. Ota, Prof. S. Gregory, Prof. K. K. Basa, Prof. Deepak Behera, Prof. Shalina Mehta, Dr. Mitthun Sikdar, and Dr. Rajni Lamba, among others, shared their insights and experiences during thematic sessions and panel discussions.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the November issue of the Anthro Bulletin and the book “Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices among PVTGs in India – II”, authored by Prof. A. B. Ota, Dr. Sunita Reddy, and Dr. Rajni Lamba.

The discussions highlighted the need to reorient anthropology curricula, strengthen employability and applied skills, and enhance the discipline’s engagement with public policy, governance, technology, and societal challenges. The workshop served as an important platform for collective reflection, dialogue, and strategic thinking on redefining anthropology’s role in contemporary India.
