Distinguished Guest Lecture by Prof. Deepak K. Behera on 'Anthropology of Children and Childhood'
Anthropos India Foundation hosted a two-day online workshop on academic writing and research that focused on enhancing writing skills and understanding some of its inherent complexities. The event brought together scholars, students, and professionals by providing them a platform for exchanging knowledge on writing, time management, research ethics, and digital tools for organizing and referencing etc. This workshop was particularly beneficial for the 40 early-career researchers and PhD students who attended it as it tried to address their immediate needs and challenges with regard to academic writing. The workshop was led by several distinguished speakers including Prof. Vaishna Narang, Dr Abhijit Guha, Dr Stephen Christopher, Dr Minakshi Dewan, Dr Asher R Jesudoss, Dr Bamdev Subedi, Dr Sandesha Rayapa Garbiyal, Dr Sunita Reddy and Dr Shaweta Anand. They shared insights on a wide array of topics ranging from writing a thesis and making presentations to the politics of publishing in peerreviewed and high-impact journals. The workshop emphasized the need to master writing skills, overcoming writer’s block, and the ethical use of digital tools to streamline the research and writing process. Participants were also introduced to reference management softwares such as Zotero, which is useful in systematically organizing research material. The central theme of the workshop was the art of academic writing that was largely viewed both as a craft and as an intellectual exercise. It explored how academic writing involved original thought, critical reading, and the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely. Workshop on 'Pathways To Two Dozen Careers In Anthropology' (Feedback)
ANTHROPOS INDIA FOUNDATION INVITES YOU FOR A DISTINGUISHED GUEST LECTURE By Prof. ABHIJIT GUHA (Former Professor in Anthropology, Vidyasagar University & former Senior Fellow of Indian Council of Social Science Research at Institute of Development Studies Kolkata) Speakers Abstract: Research on the history of anthropology in India, unlike western countries, has not yet become a formidable tradition despite the fact that academic courses on the growth and development of anthropology in India had been recommended at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Model Curriculum Development Report of the University Grants Commission as early as 2001. Under this scenario, the conceptual framework of my discourse has been derived from a critical and selective reading of the anthropological texts produced by Indian anthropologists. This reading of the history of Indian anthropology was based on two sources. One source was the reading of the original texts by pioneering anthropologists who were committed to various tasks of nation-building, while the other was the reading of literature by anthropologists who critiqued early Indian anthropology as simply following the western/colonial tradition. These two readings of the texts were juxtaposed to write a new and critical history of the discipline, which emphasized the nationalist tradition of Indian Anthropology. On the reverse side of the colonial critique, there also existed a view that an Indian form of anthropology could be discerned in many ancient Indian texts and scriptures before the advent of a colonial anthropology introduced by the European scholars, administrators and missionaries in the Indian subcontinent. I have designated this view as ‘Hindu Anthropology’. Finally, I have argued that anthropologists did make attempts to tackle some of the major challenges (viz. famine, rehabilitation of refugees and development-caused-displacement) encountered by the country in the early periods of nation-building, which I would narrate in some detail in this lecture. Under the changing times and circumstances, the future of nationalist anthropology in India lies in carrying forward this remarkable tradition of anthropology developed by some of the pioneers. This justifies the historical exploration of the nationalist trends in Indian anthropology with present and future implications. Anthropos India Foundation: A Glimpse

Anthropos India Foundation ( AIF) is a  trust, registered in Delhi in October 2011. The aim is to promote the discipline of Anthropology, its philosophy and methods and engage in applied and Action Research. AIF through its work seeks to address issues in the local/ regional context, based on the ‘emic’ perspectives and bottom up approach to solve the problems faced by the communities and its people. Taking due consideration of the local knowledge and respecting the local culture and ecology, AIF has been conducting community based research and in its effort has tried to inform the Policy initiatives too.

Apart from conducting the community based action research, AIF also organizes distinguished guest lectures by eminent anthropologists and social scientists which are recorded and available on the official website. The main aim of this lecture series is to share knowledge with the young scholars and future generations. AIF is also promoting Visual Anthropology through vibrant, authentic, meaningful ethnographic films and photo documentation.
